ESMOI (Ecología y Manejo Sustentable de Islas Oceánicas)

About

Our overall goal is to generate the necessary scientific basis for building a strategy for sustainable management and conservation of the biodiversity of seamounts and Chilean oceanic islands: ecoregion Easter Island (Rapa Nui and Motu Motiro Hiva) Islands Desventuradas (San Ambrosio and San Felix) and Ecoregion Juan Fernandez (Robinson Crusoe, Alejandro Selkirk, Santa Clara).

A 30-day scientific expedition was launched between Concepción and Easter Island aboard the Race for Water vessel in collaboration with Dr. Martin Thiel, biologist and doctor of oceanography at the Catholic University of the North (UCN) in Chile and Dr. Guillermo Luna-Jorquera, co-director of the ESMOI (Ecologia y Manejo Sustentable de Islas Oceanicas). More information on this Chilean mission is available here.
