A Radical Plan to end Plastic Waste

Plastic is an incredible substance for the economy -- and the worst substance possible for the environment, says entrepreneur Andrew Forrest. In a conversation meant to spark debate, Forrest and head of TED Chris Anderson discuss an ambitious plan to get the world's biggest companies to fund an environmental revolution -- and transition industry towards getting all of its plastic from recycled materials, not from fossil fuels.

This talk was presented at “We the Future,” a special event in partnership with the Skoll Foundation and the United Nations Foundation.

  1. Hi Trudi, thank for posting this TED Talk with Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest.  What a radical idea!  Everyone should listen to this and get behind this.  Many of us have been trying to create a circular economy and value for plastics.  This just might be the key to look at the 100 or so polymer production plants rather than only going up the source chain to the goods manufacturers.  But what do the polymer scientists say about the stability of plastics made from plastics?  Can all plastics truly be used to create plastic products again  and again?

    1. Hi Anne and Trudi, thanks for sharing. I'm not a polymer expert and there is plenty of people on this community who can answer to this question better than me. I guess no as each polymer have its own properties and so some are 'easier' to recycled into other plastic products than others.
