Published on by Kim van Arkel, Scientific Advisor in Institution
A French Biodiversity Agency has been created on 1st January 2017.
This French Agency for Biodiversity is a public institution of the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and the Sea.
It includes the Marine Protected Areas Agency, the Natural Areas Technical Workshop, the National Office for Water and Aquatic Environments and the National Parks of France.
It performs missions in support of the implementation of public policies in the fields of knowledge, preservation, management and restoration of the biodiversity of terrestrial, aquatic and marine environments.
It supports public actors but also works in close partnership with socio-economic actors.
It also aims to reach out to the public to mobilize citizens for biodiversity.
